Feng shui bathroom: all the don’ts

If you’re styling your house according to feng shui rules, you should know about a few very important don’ts! Read the article and learn a few tips.
Are you about to buy or rent a house? Or, better yet, are you having your very own house built? Either way, the first cure for bad feng shui is...prevention! If you love feng shui, you know one of the key predictors of bad energy is the position of the bathroom inside the house. Of course, there’s nothing you can do if you already live in said house; however, things change dramatically if you’re still looking for a new home! There are a few locations that are unfavourable to the creation of good energy, and in fact, it might be quite risky to place your bathroom there!

Not facing your kitchen
This is one of the biggest “don’ts” when it comes to where your bathroom is not supposed to be. In particular, this proximity is even more dangerous when the the bathroom door and the kitchen door are facing each other. This is a principle that’s actually valid for feng shui in general. The feng shui motivation is that when two doors are opposite each other, the feng shui energies flow very fast in and out of the spaces that are guarded by the doors; this is the reason why direct door alignment is always almost religiously avoided, as in the case, for instance, of the front door being opposite the back door. But what can you do if this alignment is already present in the house you’re living in? In this case, what you can do is placing a small mirror outside your bathroom door! The mirror won’t let in the feng shui energies coming from the opposite door.

Not in the centre of your house
A bathroom located in the centre of your house is normally considered bad feng shui. Why? Well, much like the heart in the human body, the centre of the house is the focus where the rest of the space draws energy from, and a bathroom simply isn’t the ideal room to put there. But no worries: you won’t have to change the whole architectural layout! You’ll just need to take a few simple countermeasures. For instance, you should make sure to create a clean, essential and clutter-free space. If the bathroom is in the centre of your home, you need to make sure the vibes it gives out are more than positive! Then, remember the importance of light. If the bathroom is windowless, you can still take care of this issue by carefully layering multiple lighting solutions.

Above your front door?
The front door is particularly relevant when it comes to feng shui energy, so it’s not advisable to place the bathroom right above it. However, if this does happen, rather than talking about bad feng shui, let’s talk about a challenging one! In fact, you’ll only need to plan your bathroom design more carefully. For instance, try to separate the two spaces horizontally, either with a very colorful bathroom floor or with a rug.

In the money area?
Well, not ideally, no. Now, as to where the money/wealth area is located, this depends on which school of feng shui you follow; in the so-called “Western” school, this location depends on the compass, while the classical school follows other rules. Regardless of this, what can you do if your bathroom is right in the middle of it? No worries! Just employ a Water color, like black, or an Earth one, like yellow. Feel free to combine black and gold or yellow together!

In the love and marriage area?
Again, this is not the ideal location for a bathroom. However, you should always take it as more of a challenge, rather than a disgrace! As always, first of all, make sure your bathroom is fully decluttered: the last thing you want is a chaotic mess interfering with your love and marriage energies! Then, something you most definitely should avoid is art depicting individuals, like in the bathroom below.
