50s style: a bit of Mid-century Modern with Movelbento

The 50s style in today’s interior design -- Mid-century Modern -- is being mastered by the colorful Brazilian brand Movelbento.
Some have been saying for quite some time now, that we must get ready to say goodbye to Mid-century Modern: it’s been nice, but now so long, and thanks for all the fish. In reality however, Mid-century doesn’t look like it's going to go anywhere. Mid-century coffee tables, cabinets, armchairs etc still populate our homes, and by the way, we can’t really expect trends to disappear completely. Not only because, as Iris Apfel said, “Everything comes back, if you hang around long enough”, but also because possibly the greatest thing about our era is the fact that we constantly re-invent and incorporate the old trends into the new ones. A great example of an outstanding re-interpretation of the 50s style is the Brazilian brand Movelbento. Would you like to learn more? Read the article!
Movelbento?
Movelbento is a Brazilian company that’s been around for a little longer than 20 years: it was founded in 1997. Of course, the world of interior design is filled with stylish, original and interesting brands; however, few possess such key intersectional features as Movelbento. In fact, just think about it: how many Brazilian furniture brands do you know, who are able to simultaneously combine the traditionally Brazilian passion for color, with the stereotypically American love for Mid-century? This may sound a bit abstract to you, but we believe that customers from all over the world have clearly been picking up on their uniqueness, as Movelbento has managed to become one of the top-selling Brazilian furniture brands.
Unexpected pops of color
One trait that certainly contributes to making Movelbento creations stand out from the crowd of Mid-century Modern furniture, is the visual interest that is added by unexpected and bright pops of color. This is perfectly in line with the Brazilian passion for vivid colors that will bring to life any object they touch. An excellent example is this TV cabinet. Of course, we immediately identify it as a piece of Mid-century Modern design. Why? A few typical features help us here: the perfectly rectangular shape, the slender, long-ish and spread out legs, and finally, the dark wooden panels and the tiny, round knobs. Still, a series of three small nooks underneath the TV have been painted in a bright turquoise, which is further brought out by the contrast with the dark shade of the wood.
Old-timey colors
Another trait that makes us love Movelbento is their sense of humour in combining rétro colors and designs. Did you assume they wouldn’t be able to create a piece so accurate it couldn’t pass for an authentic 50s piece? Well, think again! Take a look at this side cabinet, for instance. Not only does it resemble a 50s home décor piece in shape, but in color, too. That peculiar shade of mustard yellow that’s been employed to paint the doors of the cabinet used to be quite common for living rooms and even bedrooms back then, but it’s not really that much in vogue now. It’s as if Movelbento wanted to employ this piece to show off -- cheekily -- their knowledge of interior design history.
Juxtapose colors
By now, it should be clear that colors are the soul of all Movelbento creations. In fact, Movelbento can teach you an important lesson! Take the rétro mustard yellow of the previous cabinet, for instance. You may have found yourself thinking, there is no way for you to integrate a shade like that in a contemporary room. But, contrary to all expectations, that’s precisely what you can do, if you combine and juxtapose several colors in order to create a more complex color scheme, as in the picture below. Would you like to learn a secret to give a contemporary, 2018 touch to any room? Layer different tones of white and gray: at least three or four for each of them will not only give the room a strong, hip 2018 vibe, but they will also add some depth and texture.
Only rétro?
In case you’re not an incredible fan of rétro furniture, Movelbento can still be ideal for you! Besides designing amazing, colorful Mid-century Modern home décor pieces, they can also be the ideal solution for people with a very different taste. Do you need a nice, raw-wood little desk for your tiny home office? Well, there you go! The only feature that gives Movelbento away, here, is that bright white panel: unmistakable. Instead of fusing Brazilian and American culture together, this time Movelbento chooses a more nordic style: we could almost expect to find this little desk on the catalogue of a Scandinavian country.
True Brazilian soul
Movelbento also designs colorful, top-of-the-line kitchens. What we love about them is that they never look cold or impersonal: even the most minimal design is still part of a lively context. Take this one, for instance: two strips of colorful tiles spice up the look of this white and beige kitchen. An array of both closed shelves and open shelves make sure this kitchen will provide you with all the storage space you need; in addition to this, do you see those handles? Finally! 2018 is the year during which we’ll leave behind handleless kitchens, at least for a few months.
In truth, Movelbento can be even more than this! Are you curious to discover their world? Then click here!
