What’s new: the latest trends from Milan Furniture Fair

Today is the first day of the 2018 edition of Salone del Mobile: of course, Eurooo is there to spill the beans on all the latest trends by the hottest brands!

Every year, designers and furniture suppliers from all over the world converge to Milan for the International Furniture Fair, a unique, prestigious occasion to let the interior design world know about your business, if you’re a supplier, or simply pine after the wonderful, creative, luxurious designs you see, if you’re a common mortal. But what if you’re not at the Fair? Don’t worry! Eurooo is about to reveal all the newest trends by the hottest brands!

The hipster look is still with us

Were you wondering about when the hipster trend of distressed leather and wood, seemingly poor materials and sleek, nude light bulbs was going to end? Well, the answer is: not any time soon. From a hip, underground scene, some key elements of that style have been finding their way into designs by typically classic and refined brands, like Poltrona Frau. As you can see here, a string of nude light bulbs hangs over the counter at the entrance of Poltrona Frau’s stand at the Salone. Still, the bulbs have been reinterpreted and transformed into classy pendant lights by the brand’s unmistakable elegant touch.

Layering

Layering multiple home décor objects is becoming more and more popular. In particular, this trend seems to be particularly fitting when it comes to coffee tables; why? Well, there are different reasons. First of all, layering different items intensifies texture and depth, often turning the new creation into the centerpiece of the room. Then, you might want to layer them to give a certain stability to the room: for instance, that’s what’s happening here with Himolla, who chose to layer two rectangular coffee tables.

Or, you may want to layer in order to add dynamism to the room, and that’s what happens here with these three Poltrona Frau coffee tables instead.

But why not have both of these effects? Take another look at this Himolla living room, but this time from a different perspective: a round table has been added for balance and to make the overall look of this cluster of tables appear more cheerful.

Excess

A bit of extravaganza seems to be welcome at this year’s edition of the Salone! We’re finding a whole lot of colorful excesses. In particular, a few creations by Edra are quite striking. This year, Edra seems to be at least in part focusing on the natural world: their new chairs and armchairs take the shape of the most mind blowing, glittery, fancy flowers.

Others, instead, are colorful, elaborate, playfully transparent creations that clearly stem from the designers’ wildest fantasies. It’s particularly interesting to observe Edra play with such features as transparency, as normally its elaborate fantasies are made of soft fabrics. This tradition is still well and alive, though: in the background of the picture below, you can see a comfy, cozy armchair upholstered in soft, golden fur. Still, it is not an anonymous, boring creation: don’t you think this chair has been designed to resemble the wrinkly fur of a Shar Pei?

Bold colors...

We’ve been saying for weeks now that 2018 is the year of bold colors, and in fact, we were not wrong! We’re seeing heaps of gorgeously bright and bold shades that can instantly turn any piece into an eye-catcher! Of course, it does help if the shape is quite original too; the best example of a good balance between a bold color and a bold shape is given by these Moroso chairs: two colorful curly leaves.

...but don’t forget sobriety

Sobriety hasn’t lost its importance, though. In fact, as any interior design lover knows, the key is finding a balance between sobriety and extravagance. Take these vases by Kose, for instance. They have a sober, simple look, obtained by mixing fancy shapes with neutral shades; or alternatively, linear shapes with striking color contrasts, like black and white.

Another way of obtaining an elegant and overall sober effect even with intensely decorated items, is to decorate them with rich and complex patterns. A great example are these round china plates by Zanotta: the richness of the blue pattern gives us a feeling of uniformity, and only by taking a closer look do we realize the complexity and intricacy of the blue decorations on the white china.

That’s all for now, but we’ll keep you posted on all the newest and hottest trends from the 2018 edition of the Salone del Mobile, so stay tuned!
