The Dreamers: be boho-chic like a Parisienne

If you, too, are a fan of the boho-chic interior design we can find in Bernardo Bertolucci’s movie The Dreamers, set in Paris, look no further: learn here how to style a fancy, decadent house.

To be fair, you don’t really need to be a #1 fan of The Dreamers to love a boho-chic, decadent but oh-so-hip atmosphere! True, it’s a style that’s been coming and going for years, but still: it’s imbued with an evergreen charm that is bound to conquer everyone, from time to time. In particular, here are some tips to add a boho-chic air to your house, without making it look like a bunch of 19th century French poets have been camping in there for months.

Details

Don’t be fooled by the ostensible negligence of boho-chic interior design: in reality, every detail is accurately planned and designed, in order to avoid any unwanted mess. So for instance, instead of a simple, nude light bulb, opt for a complex chandelier: be dramatic both with color and with material! This is a great example: black and white pearls make for an unforgettable centerpiece.

Velvet

Needless to say, velvet is one of the main materials that are going to help you give body to a boho-chic house. To be honest, velvet is an excellent vintage fabric in general, but it’s just perfect when it comes to that Bohemian look. It works even better on a vintage home décor piece, like this richly cushioned, bold armchair! The true genius here has been combining this bright yellow velvet with the almost electric blue of the buttons: the contrast adds flair to this unique design.

Leather

Leather should be another go-to choice for your boho-chic home; a Chesterfield sofa upholstered in leather will immediately remind the onlookers of pipe smoke, incomprehensible French poems and penniless artists. However, we recommend a bright shade, like this amazing green: surround this lovely couch with vintage china and the boho-chic effect will be complete.

Coziness

We believe a contemporary boho-chic home should feel cozy, and what’s one of the best ways to do this? Getting a rug! In particular, a hand-woven rug placed on some wooden planks will warm the atmosphere up in no time, even when it’s combined with pure white furniture.

Use dark colors too

Since we are encouraging you to explore a wide range of colors, we also encourage you not to forget the darker shades! We’ve already seen that beautiful blue carpet… But, have you ever thought that your bedroom too, can be quite dark-ish? This makes for a more layered and complex atmosphere, and also...doesn’t this bedroom remind you of a fancier version of one of those dark, shabby attics where 19th century French poets used to live? Ready for an ultra-dramatic bedroom?

Spindle-backed chairs

First of all, let us say that these chairs by Stolab are fit for many more styles than just boho-chic. The Lilla Åland chair has been one of Stolab’s most popular items for years now, and that’s thanks to its simple but stunning colors and the overall sober and neutral design, which makes it perfect for many different kinds of interiors. However, precisely because the Lilla Åland is so essential and simple in its style, we can totally see it in a boho-chic kitchen, especially if you choose the same model, but in different shades. It’s going to add an air of informality and spontaneous randomness you’ll fall in love with in a second!

Wooden table

Keep the table simple! A table styled with sober wooden planks will be enriched by the presence of the Lilla Åland chairs. Plus, our tip is to decorate the table with lots of colorful tableware: it’s going to look even better if you get a cute but apparently unmatching set!

Freestanding clawfoot bathtub

This is the final touch! Place your antique-looking clawfoot bathtub right at the center of your bathroom, style the floor with some wooden planks, maybe even add a hint of boiserie and wooden panelling, et voilà, you’ll get a fascinating, decadent boho-chic atmosphere all through your house.
