Resin: a unique material for our home décor

Resin is multipurpose and guaranteed to never make your house look boring. Shall we take a look?

Resin is a material that’s been used for thousands of years, for a range of vastly different purposes. Since natural resin is inflammable, one of the very first uses our ancestors did was brushing it on the tip of a stick in order to make a torch. However, its malleabilty, resistance and preservation skills are what have made it such a precious interior design material: remember that perfectly preserved mosquito at the beginning of Jurassic Park? The interior design world is now populated with thousands of resin creations: some of those are made from natural resin, while many more others are now being produced from artificial varieties. Let’s take a look at beautiful resin pieces we can style our home with!

Sleek tables

Because it’s so easy to bend and shape resin while it’s still in its viscose state, one of the most popular resin creations are tables: dining tables, coffee tables, desks… It doesn’t really matter which category they belong to: they will always be crafted into a clean, bright and flowing piece of décor. If you find that a monochromatic, mono-material table looks too boring, why don’t you try something more layered, like this coffee table? Resin and wood are juxtaposed, creating a pleasant dialogue between shiny and opaque surfaces, and the coldness of white is balanced with the neutral, natural warmth of wood.

More scope for creativity

Resin doesn’t necessarily need to be the main material to be striking. Check out this coffee table, for example. It’s made from a wooden plank with raw-cut edges that show every natural detail; the neutral brown of the wood brings out the resin brook that flows along the plank, resembling a mountain stream we might find on a hike. Even just a tiny, creative touch of resin can be enough to make any piece of furniture shine its own light!

Back to our ancestral origins

As much as we can create any sorts of objects from resin, designers haven’t forgotten the first use we ever made of it: remember? Fire. That’s why many manufacturers still turn to pine resin when it’s time to make candles. A pine resin candle can be left in its neutral color, or go through a coloring process: vividly bright candles should be your go-to if you’re planning to decorate a white or pastel room.

Trapped in resin

Much like the Jurassic Park’s mosquito example, natural objects like leaves and flowers are still being trapped and preserved under a thick, solid layer of crystal-clear resin. An original example of this is the candle holder that’s pictured below: the hollow section of a teak wood branch has been transformed into a precious home décor piece by a perfectly smooth box of resin.

“I’m Resin. I solve problems.”

We know even too well the joy of choosing aesthetic items to make our home cozier and more personal day by day. However, the ugly truth is that sometimes we lack the will to spend so much of our time and money looking everywhere for, say, an amazingly beautiful chair to dine on our patio. Sometimes we just want a quick, ready-made and practical solution: that solution is resin. Because of its resistance to the natural elements, choosing resin outdoor furniture is a smart and painless choice that you will never regret.

What if I don’t want a basic solution?

Even in this case, resin is still a great option for you! Designers and manufacturers often use it to produce funny and provocative pieces. An example? These outdoor chairs put together the traditional shape of antique chairs, with a contemporary material and bright colors. Are you convinced that resin will never be boring?
