Royals: have the Queen over for dinner

Royals from all over the world will be honored to eat at your table if you follow our advice on how to style a luxurious, over-the-top dining room.

Remember when we said that elegant understatement is going to be one of the trending interior design principles for 2018? No? Take a look at this article to refresh your memory. Anyway, we’re not going back on our word, but is it so wrong to show off from time to time? We understand that everyone is different, and so who are we to judge? For instance, if you regularly host dinners for friends, acquaintances, co-workers, it might be wise to style your dining room so that you’ll be sure to impress anyone who sets foot in it.

Ready to learn how to style a luxurious dining room?

1. Keep your table up to standard...

The dining table is crucial to the whole dining experience. Don’t get us wrong, there’s lots of details that come into play when you’re styling your dining room and planning the future dinners you’ll host. That said, nothing, not even the presence of the Queen herself, can make up for a shabby table. So go ahead, splurge on a lavish, shiny new table: you won’t regret it. Feel free to be a bit extravagant with your choice, but not too much: choose one or two extravagant features, and keep everything else about the table on the down-low. The table in the picture below is a good example: the way the legs bend and cross on the floor and the silver inserts are the two features that makes it eccentric, while other characteristics, like the color, are pretty regular.

2. ...and the chairs too

Naturally, once you’ve chosen a luxurious table, you can’t afford to be stingy on the chairs. If the table is luxurious, chairs should maintain a classic look; dining chairs with a classic, traditional shape, and one uncommon feature -- a slightly bizarre colour or material -- are sure to make your dining room look absolutely royal.

3. Silver, silver everywhere

Well, maybe not just everywhere, but still: silver is subtly elegant and timelessly classy. Because of this, we wholeheartedly recommend getting a set of silver cutleries: how else would you eat on important occasions? For any other meal, stainless steel can and should be your go-to.

By the way, if you really want to impress, you should also get a statement centerpiece. How about some silver candelabra to shed warm candlelight during a romantic dinner with your better half?

4. Time to talk about glasses

You should put a lot of attention into the choice of glasses, even more than into the choice of plates. After all, plates are going to be soon covered with food, and as long as they’re made of good quality white ceramic, they will be fine. But glasses stay on the table from the beginning to the end of a dinner, so be careful when making your decision. Our tip? If your dining room is mostly white or light-colored, dare with bright colors!

5. The final touch

Do not forget the importance of light! You don’t need a thousand tiny lights; in fact, you’ll get a better royal effect if you focus on one, sublime chandelier.
