How to be professional: a perfect office is the answer

How to be professional? Tough question, but worry not: we're here to coach you.

If you’re a professional and work independently, you normally have two choices: working from home or working from an office. With so many Internet-based professions, many people are choosing to work in the comfort of their own home: no more catching the subway at 7am and no more worrying about dress-codes. How to blame them? By the way, for all of you working from home, you can read this article to learn all the secrets for a perfect home office!

Still, for some others it might be way better to receive customers and partners in an actual office. So, how to choose the essentials to style your office? It's a fairly simple process.

You need a surface...

We might be stating the obvious, but you do need a table, and it’s an important choice: you will probably sit at your desk for 8 hours a day, so this is not a choice you should make impulsively. You can go for a more traditional-looking desk or for a more contemporary one, but let’s avoid wooden surfaces, shall we? Wooden desks are elegant, but especially if your profession is dynamic and Internet-based, a wooden desk wouldn’t suit it too well. Do you know which material is always perfect, no matter what? Marble! Make sure you select a table with thin edges, and your marble desk will be ideal for any 2018 jobs.

If you are looking for something a bit more informal than marble, then we suggest you consider a sleek, sinuous desk, possibly mono or bichromatic, brightly colored: it will become an attention-stealer and your office will never become too serious.

...and somewhere to sit

Again, stating the obvious? Maybe, but keep in mind that every little detail of your office will be taken in and judged by all of your customers as soon as they set foot in it, so you need to plan ahead. We want your office to have a fresh, efficient look, so here’s our recommendation: pick a neutrally colored chair, but not a banal one. For instance, if the colour is neutral, you can make sure to get one with a creative shape. The advantage of a chair like the one we’re showing you is that it’s so essential that it goes wonderfully with both desks.

Don’t forget a sofa!

If you’re going to spend so much time at your office, you should get something more comfortable to sit on: a sofa or a few armchairs, that is. Here is where you can play a bit: instead of going with a classic-looking sofa, dare! Choose a piece that stands out, either because of its color or because of its shape...or both.

Shelves

Chances are, you are going to need some sort of storing space: at the beginning your office will be empty, but soon it will fill up with folders, books, stationery… If you don’t want to spend too much time wrecking your brain on what to get that could harmonize with the rest of your furniture, we get it. The solution is actually pretty straightforward: pick a shelving system with just a few essential lines, and again, a neutral color. Don’t be scared if it looks too white or impersonal at first: it’s going to take no time to fill it up with your things.

Finishing touches

The final, essential items that need to be in your office are decorations! Who wants to work in a boring environment? Our essential go-to for your office is greenery: plants and flowers. If you’ve already worked in an office, you know how nice it is to see some green. But please, do it in style. For example, you could get some flower vases that match your desk, like these Nordst vases.

If you love plants and you are planning on getting some bigger ones, like a ficus tree, you can still save space thanks to some smart flower and plant stands like this one.
