Bedroom colors and mood: how interior design can affect your state of mind

Bedroom colors and mood: a correlation that we shouldn’t neglect when decorating our home.

Though scientists don’t completely comprehend the correlation between color and mood, it is a scientific fact that different color affects mood. The way this link work, is the same mechanism of meteoropathy: a sunny sky or affects our state of mind positively, as well as a gloomy weather makes us feel sad and blue. We should keep this correlating in mind when choosing the colors for the interior design of our homes, especially in the bedroom. The colors and tints can definitely affect how we act, think and feel, they have, so to speak, their own personality. When choosing a room’s color scheme, remember that balance is best achieved with a mix of warm and cool colors.

When you think of a bedroom, what is the atmosphere you want to create? What feeling you want to get when entering the room? Try to visualize the colors that stimulate calmness, relaxation, peace, or maybe you want to feel revitalized and energized in the mornings. Color influences your feelings in a subtle—but significant—way. If your bedroom isn’t decorated in your favorite colors, it’s time to think about a makeover—or at least, a few new additions to your décor, to make you feel good. Blues, greens and grays are naturally soothing: they can relax, soothe, and calm us, that is why they are so often hosen for bedrooms. Bright tints such as pink, orange and yellow increase your energy and your spirits: yellow makes many people feel cheerful, and happy, in its soft gradation it is a bit easier on the eyes and more calming than bright yellows. Bright colors such as cream and yellow reflect light and are perfect for poorly lit rooms, also making it a great choice for a ceiling color.

Light is an important element to exalt all the colors and the design of the furniture in a bedroom. If you can’t have a lot of natural light, illumination design becomes as important as the colors you choose for the interior decoration. Take advantage of natural light during the day, but have at least two other sources of light in a very small bedroom—three or more if the room is large. The best mix includes a ceiling light or small chandelier, a bedside lamp and at least one more source of task lighting. You can take it further with soft light from candles.

Every room needs something special that can tell a bit about its owner. Yours is no exception: colors and mood are related, and so are emotional objects to us. You’ll feel better when you wake up to the sight of things you really love, such as framed photos of family, pets or happy memories Collectibles that mean something beyond their value—a music box that once belonged to your grandmother, a trophy you won in softball league, the preserved and framed bouquet from your wedding. Luxurious touches that make you feel special. Think of quality sheets, candles, a mirror with a beautiful frame, a comfortable chair at your vanity.
