Stressed out? Here’s the home décor for you

Before reading this article, we want you to try and ask yourself one question: how many times do you stop and spend some time doing… nothing? We are busy every day with a thousand things to do, stressed out, always dealing with problems and difficult situations, without ever being able to break the routine, turn off our smartphone, and enjoy some time for ourselves, just relaxing. Our society has forgotten an important thing, while focusing only on productivity and work: laziness is important too.

If you really want to keep track of time, at least do so with a stylish wall clock by Materium

It is fundamental that we allow our brain to regenerate, to recharge our body batteries, with benefits for our health, relationships, productivity at work. We are not suggesting you should turn into an inconclusive and idle person, but we all should try to find some time during the day just for ourselves, to rest and relax. It doesn’t sound too bad to live a chill life for a few hours a week, does it? Here we want to give you some advice on how to find some spare time, and how to use it best, to be able to relax. As weird as it may sound, yes, we want to teach you how to be lazy.

Ten minutes in the morning

As we mentioned, even a limited amount of time per day can be enough to feel regenerated and relaxed. Setting the alarm clock a few minutes earlier than usual might sound like a hard thing to do, but it will reward you with the pleasure of giving yourself some time without doing anything special: have you ever thought about it? Breathe slowly, do yoga, listen to your favorite relaxing music. Take a sip of the morning sun, along with your coffee, and discover the energy of the first rays of light. You could spend these few minutes outside, in your garden or on your balcony. You will notice that a good awakening will have beneficial effects on your mood, helping you cope with everyday activities with more serenity and awareness.

Don’t neglect your hobbies
The busy lives that we live often lead us to neglect our hobbies and passions. Nonetheless, we need to make an effort not to neglect them, and find time to dedicate to painting, embroidery, playing guitar, or reading a good novel. Create an equipped workstation, save a corner of your house just for your hobby: hot glue, tapes, scissors, brushes, or a comfy armchair next to an elegant bookshelf. This will become your private place, the shelter from the outer world: where you can truly be yourself and indulge in an activity that makes you feel good, relaxed and regenerated. In this private corner, no cellphones or laptop are allowed: it has to be a technology-free moment.

Sweet nothing
Don’t you have any hobbies you love? No problem: indulge yourself in pure laziness, for a 100% carefree relax. Find some time during the day when you can dedicate yourself to the sweet nothing, with a true sloth-life aptitude. Learn to enjoy solo time. Use these moments to clear your thoughts, forget about the issues that are causing you stress. The best way to do that, is lying down on a comfy chaise longue, and looking at life from a different point of view.

Take a nap
Let’s admit it, naps are everyone’s guilty pleasures. But we must not feel guilty, after all: the famous siesta of 20/30 minutes a day, after lunch, has beneficial effects on the heart, memory, mood and health in general. What else to add? Several researchers found out that naps help inspiration, by producing a significant activity of the right brain hemisphere, the one associated with creativity, while the left remained quiet. Basically, after a recharging nap, we are not only well rested, but also more mentally active. To make your naps cozy and comfortable, designers have created hybrid sofas that are meant specifically to welcome you for your afternoon siesta. To make the nap atmosphere complete, choose a blackout curtain, soft cushions and always a soft blanket, preferably in relaxing shades such as mint green.

A warm bath
Here is another good place to relax: the bathtub! How many of us have one, but end up almost never using it? You should never give up the opportunity to soak in fragrant hot water for an hour. A long bath can transform in a moment of quiet and contemplation useful to free the mind from stress and thoughts. Personalize your bathroom your own way: bath salts and candles to scent the room and create a charming atmosphere. If you have a curtain around your tub, keep it closed: leave the noises out of your private moment. If you are lucky enough to have a Jacuzzi, the bubbly water will make your relax hour feel like a spa treatment.

Therapeutic cooking
We all know that cooking can be therapeutic: preparing a dish for yourself or for your loved ones can ease your mind and make you feel better. Take some time to cook something that will warm your body and heart, a comfort food that will help you get through your rough days. You will feel relaxed both while cooking it and when eating it. It can be a chocolate cake, or a smooth soup for cold nights. Keep your favorite cooking accessories and spices at hand, so you can move around the kitchen taking care of each step of the recipe slowly, enjoying every moment of it.

Take some time for your lunch
Here is one last piece of advice for you. Between work and our daily task, we all end up eating our lunch way too quickly, trying to hurry up and move on to our next task; but this might affect our wellbeing negatively. Eating a rushed meal might feel like we haven’t eaten at all. The moment you eat must be a pleasant break for you. Take a few minutes before eating: set the table properly, with a nice cloth and real tableware. It might surprise you how much your daily mood will be improved by this.
