Mean Girls: on Wedsnedays we décor with pink!

Who hasn’t loved the cult Mean Girls? If you agree that pink is the perfect color not only to wear, but to boost your home décor with, take a look at this article!

If you’re familiar with the classic movie Mean Girls, you should know that given the fact that it’s Wednesday, today is the day when, according to the Plastics, “we wear pink”. But what if we told you that your house would look amazing wearing pink every single day of the week? Mind you, a monochrome house would look excessive, boring and might give you away as a bit of a pink fanatic! However, a few pink accents here and there will immediately boost your interior design. Why? Well, pink is a versatile color: true, you have magenta and hot pink, which are bright and intense, but there are countless more discrete shades, like rose and blush. Then, pink is also easily adaptable to any interior design styles, which means it will go hand in hand with a super contemporary look, as well as a more classic one, like in the bedroom pictured below. Are you ready? Then put on your pink glasses and take a look at these lovely pink designs.

A little baby pink goes a long way

Given that we would never be able to name a favorite shade of pink, baby pink certainly is one of our faves. Delicate and discrete, baby pink is at the same time able to change a home décor piece completely. Take this tiny desk, for instance. Don’t get us wrong, one look at it is enough to know it would be a high-quality, pretty desk even without pink: the design is simple and essential, but the shape of the legs, which fall diagonally to the ground, makes it a one-of-a-kind little desk. Still, that baby pink drawer on the side works wonders with the pale color of the wood, thus giving birth to a pure, unique design that we can’t but describe as ultra-cute.

Powder pink for your wall

Some of you may think pink walls might be a bit too extravagant. But is it really so? Well, it depends. First of all, if four magenta walls are for sure too much, why not consider an accent wall? Especially if you layer lots of neutrals around the rest of the room, it’s never going to appear excessive. But, what about a decorative powder pink and white wall? You see, you don’t necessarily have to select a monochrome (and possibly boring) wall, as there are wallpapers out there that can instantly upgrade your interior design with some great motifs. A classic wallpaper displaying a mysterious, enchanted forest can be powder pink, thus mixing art, inspiration from nature and one of our favorite shades.

Contrast pink with dark shades

Trust us, not many color combinations are as dramatic as pink + a dark shade. In general, the darker the better, as the contrast will look striking and immediately catch the attention of anyone in the room. Don’t forget that, the more creative the motif or the decoration is, and the more impressive your home décor piece is going to look! Also, don’t necessarily look for geometric precision: this dark blue and pink rug, inspired by the shape of an origami crane, is in fact characterized by tiny irregularities and “imperfections”, as it is handwoven, but these imperfections only make it more precious.

Be ironic!

You probably think fluo pink is okay for highlighting key passages in textbooks, but maybe not the ideal choice for your home décor. Well...it depends! Fluo pink is not a color you can take seriously, unless...you employ it ironically! The painting below was created starting from a very specific questions: how would painters have painted in the past, if they’d had the chance of using fluo colors? The result is simply remarkable, too gorgeous even for words: a scene worthy of a grand master, made dramatic by the intense light/shade contrast, and...by the unexpected but breathtaking presence of fluo pink.

Pink and grey

Another color combination that usually works out incredibly well is pink and grey. Of course, you can add some pink décor pieces to an overall grey environment to brighten it up. But what if you were to mix the two? The end result is a toned-down, discrete shade of pink that can be paired with pretty much everything, as fusing pink with grey has transformed the latter into a more neutral color.

Pink and gold

Millennials are the generation known for re-launching pink gold, but while pink gold’s popularity has been fading for the last few months, pink and gold, separate, will never fail to impress. It’s a combination that can be very classy, very playful, or even quite a bit kitsch, if that’s your thing. This stool can be each and every one of these things, depending on the context in which you put it.

Still think that stool was a bit too much for you? Well then, you can always choose a more serious, square design. For instance, this coffee table not only is decorated with a slightly darker and more discrete shade of pink, but its regular geometry makes it the perfect choice for any minimal room.

Have fun

Nothing wrong with having fun and being cheeky with a little pink! Plus, summer is upon us, which means that soon those of use lucky enough to be on holiday will be spending all their time at pool parties. So, why not throw in a few shocking pink inflatable flamingos? True, we can’t say they’re not a tad trashy, but what would a pool party be without a few embarrassing inflatables?

Salmon pink

There you go: another precious pink shade. Salmon pink is certainly one of the classiest shades of pink; feminine, but also sober and discrete, you could fill your house with salmon pink designs, and still the only drawback would be a constant craving for salmon. A room where salmon pink seems to work remarkably well is the bathroom; so why not select some iridescent tiles or mosaics to put on display on your bathroom walls? This specific shade will for sure give the room a rétro vibe, while adding a warm, welcoming touch to the atmosphere.

Salmon pink is ideal for floors too! After all, why shouldn’t you take advantage of the fact that marble, this marvellous, natural material, can also boast a fantastic range of pinks?
